Windows In November of 1985 Microsoft released Windows 1, this was their first major attempt at a graphical user interface in 16 bit. It is also notable because it relied heavily on use of the computer mouse before use of it was common.
Windows 2 was introduced 2 years later in 1987. This updated version allowed minimizing and maximizing windows and for them to overlap each other. It was also the first version to run Microsoft Word and Excel.
Windows 3 was launched in 1990 and was the first that required a hard drive. This version also supported 256 colours allowing for a more colourful and bright display screen
In 1992 Windows 3.1 was released. It included TrueType fonts allowing it to be used as a publisher. It needed 1MB of RAM to run and was distributed using CD-ROM.
